Freebie Remembrance Day kit ~ We Remember

Well i have been planning this for awhile now, but I only finished this kit today, *whew*
I have been trying to work on this for a few weeks but the past 2 especially
I would open up PSP and Photoshop and nothing would come
Then today it just kind of flew out there lol
I know many younger people these days don't have any idea what sacrifices were made during WWI and WWII, i know i don't, I was born in 1974. But I guess the school's I attended seemed to reach me.
I remember every year we would read the Flanders Fields poem over and over. And in the older grades we would have to memorize it and recite it. I never did memorize it though, like I said i have a terrible memory, while worse as I get older it wasnt much better when I was young lol.
I have started to notice not as many people wear poppies anymore. I know I lost mine, which I hate doing. I usually buy a few of them throughout the couple of weeks they are on sale.
While my own grandfather was kicked out of the army because he had flat feet, my husband's grandfather did serve, he was in the Navy. I couldnt even imagine what he went thru. He saw death, more of it than anyone should ever have to see. He was on the ships that would have to retrieve the dead bodies from the water after a battle. Im sure you dont want to know about it or even think about it, I know i dont. But its important to remember what these brave men and women faced, all for our freedom. My husband's grandfather survived the war, but it left terrible scars. He rarely ever spoke about what he did during those years. Until his death a few years ago, my husband had no idea what his grandfather had actually done during the war because he wouldnt talk about it. I wish for a time when we wont have to fight each other. But whether that ever happens or not, we can NEVER FORGET! Or their lives will have been sacrificed for nothing.
Before I get to the kit, I managed to create a layout with a picture of my husband's grandfather. Oh and i also made a quickpage to share with you all. And please dont forget, I began as a tagger and still am, so I am new to layouts and quickpages and things. This is all new to me, so please be gentle. I am going to have to post them as thumbnails because they are a tad too large for my blog.

This is the layout I created

If you want to see it full size, cause its distorted, then click the thumbnail below

And this is a sample of the Quickpage
The actual QP is 800 X 800, so this one has been resized to fit my blog and looks way better at full size

You can download the quickpage HERE

Oh and did I mention this is a full size kit??
All papers are 12 X 12 and at 300 DPI, so it can be printed.
Well here is the preview

You can download the kit HERE

And while sometimes I get discouraged when no thank you is left, if you arent going to thank me for this kit, at least say a prayer or have a moment of silence for those who sacrificed their lives so we could have the freedoms that we have.

Hugs
Vella

Thank you so very much for remembering what today is about. I agree, most people don't stop to thank those that give up sooo much so we can enjoy our freedoms and sleep in peace. You did a wonderful job creating this. Thank you again!

Thanks for sharing the story and the kit. I live in Sweden, a country which hasn't been at war for 200 years but my grandmother was from Germany, she lived through both WWI and WWII and she never got over it. She could never throw away food even if it was bad and mouldy, she ate it anyway because that's what she had had to do during the war when food supply was limited. I always had to clean out her refrigerator when I visited.

Thank you! My father was buried on Veteran's Day 4 years ago. He didn't die in any battle, he just passed from this life to eternity at the age of 79. Thanks, I will make a memory of him in uniform.

Vella, This is so amazing of you. My grandfather was in the Fire Service in England during WW2x My mum and dad were both born during it and often tell stories of the air raid shelters and the rationing. People think they have it tough today but my goodness they'll never ken will they.

Your layout is amazing and really touched my heart.

My love and angel blessings to you always xxx

Thank you so much! I've been looking something with a patriotic theme to it. In my family,my husband was in the Army right at the height of the Vietnam war; my father was in the Navy & my father-in-law was in the Army during WWII;my maternal grandfather fought during WWI and the story I remember hearing was that he suffered some of his lung problems because of the gas the Germans were using; I have at least 1 ancestor who fought in the Civil War; and, at least 13 who fought in the Revolutionary War.

I'm working on another scrapbook and really hoped I would find a kit like yours. Thanks for it very much!

XXXOOO,
Perkypine
